Thousands of visitors flocked to Nottingham city
centre for the Spring
Bank Holiday extravaganza of free music which took place Saturday 24 – Monday 26 May.
Families
and people from all ages and backgrounds came along to listen to music from a variety of genres and
soak up the atmosphere in and around the city centre.
Highlights
included indie favourites Athlete who played the closing performance on the main stage in the Old Market
Square on Saturday, Elliot Minor who attracted a large following of teenagers and crowds dancing along
to Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band and classic 80s sounds from The Beat and The Blockheads, who
rounded up the celebrations on Monday.
On Saturday
afternoon, a number of local and emerging talents took to the main stage in the Old Market Square, hosted
by Dean Jackson of BBC Radio Nottingham’s ‘The Beat’.
On
Sunday 25 May in the Square, Heart 106 presented a special guest appearance from Gabriella Cilmi - a
major new talent from Australia whose debut single ‘Sweet about Me’ is currently number 18 in the UK
top 40.
As well as performances in the Market Square,
the city was buzzing with live music supported by the Nottingham Leisure Partnership Ltd, at five satellite
venues including Castle Road (the Robin Hood Statue), Chapel Bar, Forman Street by The Cornerhouse,
Hockley and St Peter’s Square with everything from country, folk and world music, to jazz and big band.
Mariachi Tapatio, who gave the final performance at the Foreman Street venue on Monday were a bit hit
with the crowds, and nearby restaurant, who invited the band to continue to their performance indoors.
Councillor
Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Communities said: "The event
was a huge success and attracted big crowds throughout the weekend, despite poor weather on Sunday.
There was a great atmosphere as people discovered different acts around the city centre. The festival
is an exciting addition to our events programme and we’re sure that everyone who came along enjoyed
themselves."
Pubs, clubs and associated venues linked to Nottingham
Leisure Partnership Ltd also hosted live music at their venues across the city centre. Other music events
taking place over the bank holiday weekend included the ever-popular Dot to Dot Festival.
