Nottingham City Council are proud to announce that Nottingham
Tennis Centre has
been selected as a pre-game paralympic training camp for the London Olympics 2012.
The
Tennis Centre represents one of a number of facilities in the UK to be included in the Pre-Games Training
Camp Guide for Paralympic sports which will be published this summer by the London Organising Committee
of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
The
Guide lists high quality sports facilities which are capable of hosting visiting teams or individual
athletes wishing to prepare to take part in the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Nottingham
Tennis Centre plays host to the British Open Wheelchair event in July and the British Open Indoor Wheelchair
event in October, in addition to regular wheelchair training camps.
Councillor
Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Communities said: "We’re delighted that
the Nottingham Tennis Centre has been selected as a venue for pre-game paralympic training. It’s a testament
to Nottingham’s reputation as a sporting city and a much needed boost following the LTA’s decision to
relocate the Men’s ATP tour in 2009."
A certificate of verification was
presented to the Centre during today’s announcement to mark the occasion.
