Nottingham Castle gathers over 1,000 people in
Robin Hood world record
attempt
Over 1,000 ‘Robin Hoods’ descended on Nottingham Castle at the
weekend, to take part in the site’s world record attempt for the largest gathering of people dressed
as the city’s famous outlaw. The final count at Saturday’s event amounted to 1,119 Robins – almost doubling
the previous record of 606 – and despite the last minute threat of severe weather.
Nottingham
Castle will now submit evidence to the Guinness World Records in order for the record to be made official.
The event, which was held as part of a series of events in support of the
Castle’s exclusive BBC Robin Hood Up Close exhibition, saw participants who ranged
from 6 weeks to 84 years old, and who had travelled from the length and breadth of the UK as well as
from far a field as Australia, Canada, Holland and Norway.
Nottingham Castle’s
General Manager Dave Green said: “The atmosphere on Saturday was electric, with residents, national
and international visitors all coming together in honour of our city’s iconic hero. We are incredibly
proud of what we can achieve by uniting together and look forward to having the record made official
Robin
Hood Up Close continues at Nottingham Castle until Sunday 20 April, when the site’s annual St
George’s Day Celebration will act as a send off for the exhibition which has seen over 90,000 visitors.
