Nottingham launched its bid to win the Britain in Bloom ‘Champion
of Champions’ title with a day-long event in the Old Market Square on Thursday March 27th.
The event which took place between 10am and 4pm featured free activities
for all the family including giveaways, competitions, demonstrations and advice from the Bloom team
of horticultural experts. Members of the public also had a chance to meet Nottingham City Council’s
new team of Park Rangers and some of the groups who work with Nottingham in Bloom, including the Friends
of University Park,
Pride in the Meadows and Greenweeks.
Nottingham
has been invited to compete
for the top Britain in Bloom title this year after winning the ‘Best Large City’ category in 2007. Other challengers for the ‘Champion of Champions’ title will be Alness in Scotland, Darley in Yorkshire,
Heysham in Lancashire, and St Ives and Carbis Bay in Cornwall.
Councillor Malcolm Wood, Chair of the Nottingham in Bloom Working Group, said:
"Every year more and more people get involved in improving their neighbourhood through the Nottingham
in Bloom initiative and we hope that the launch event has inspired even more to join in and help
the city’s bid to win the top title."
