Splendour’s first year was a huge success – setting
the stage for
the festival to become a regular feature in Nottingham’s summer festival season.
Crowds
of an estimated 10,000 thronged to Wollaton Park over the weekend to see some of pop’s brightest and
best perform in Nottingham’s back garden. Click on the Splendour button at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/splendour
to see reviews from the weekend.
As hoped, it proved a hit with families, with
many children getting their first taste of outdoor music from the likes of Kate Nash, The Charlatans,
Paolo Nutini, Rufus Wainwright, Ocean Colour Scene and The Lemonheads on the main stage, as well as
lesser-known bands on a second stage in the Hall’s courtyard.
The largely sunny
and dry weather helped encourage hundreds to turn up at the gate each day, on top of the thousands who
had booked ahead.
The festival, set in the stunning grounds of Wollaton Hall,
is now set to become a key part of Nottingham’s exciting summer festival season which includes the ever-popular
Riverside Festival from August 1st-3rd - this year seeing the launch of a new Children’s Festival which
will run to August 19th – see www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/whatson
for more.
Councillor David Trimble, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder
for Communities, Leisure and Culture said: "Splendour lived up to our expectations and we’re delighted
that so many turned up to enjoy the great music and fabulous atmosphere. We look forward to it becoming
a big part of the city’s summer festival season."
