Nottingham City Council is proud to support the
return of the UK's largest summer basketball programme – Midnight Madness.
Now
in its fourth year, the event is run in conjunction with Nike UK and NBA UK and provides access and
opportunity for inner city communities, giving UK talent a pathway and platform on which to develop
and shine.
Nottingham will host two shows at the Jesse Boot Wildcats Arena.
The first event on Saturday 2nd August from 10am - 10pm, called ‘Midday Madness’ will see players competing
against each others to get one of 10 GOLDEN tickets at under 21, over 21 and female groups. There is
also a FREE open coaching clinic for players aged 8 - 16 from 10am - 12pm. Each participant will receive
a Nike Midnight Madness T shirt and water bottle.
On 8th August, 90 players
from each age group who have received a golden ticket will take part in the regional qualifier, held
in Nottingham for the first time, to try and earn a place on the two teams that will battle for a place at
Wembley on 16th August. This event takes place from 6pm and goes all the way through to 6am on Saturday
morning.
The programme reaches its climax at Finals Night, where the
ultimate winners will be rewarded for their talents and efforts, earning the right to represent the
UK internationally through one of the travelling teams who compete in tournaments worldwide.
Councillor
Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Communities said: "We’re
delighted that Midnight Madness is returning to Nottingham and to be chosen as the city to host the
regional qualifier is a testament to Nottingham’s reputation as a sporting city and puts us firmly on
the map."
Sport Pathways Development Officer Paul Douglas, agrees:
"Midnight Madness gives local enthusiasts of all levels and abilities an opportunity
to play amongst some of the best players in the UK and plays a significant role in increasing the profile
of British basketball talent. It’s the biggest event of the year and promises to be a spectacular display
of the UK’s finest talent. Whether you’re a baller or a spectator, prepare to be entertained!"
