Chediston Vale Park, off Beckhampton Road in Bestwood,
has secured £200,000 of funding to carry out major improvements.
£100,000
from Area 2 Committee’s Capital Allocation and £30,000 new funding allocated to the Parks and Open Spaces
Section is being combined with £30,000 Section 106 funding and £40,000 from the Department for Children,
Schools and Families (DCSF) as part of the City’s successful ‘Pathfinder’ Play grant awarded earlier
this year.
This marks the culmination of over two
years work by the Council and the local community to secure funding to carry out improvements to their
local park.
Councillor Dave Trimble, Nottingham City Council
Portfolio Holder for Communities, Leisure and Culture, said: "We’re delighted to
have secured this funding to improve Chediston Vale Park. Thousands of local people, young and old alike, will benefit from the improvements and updated facilities."
Though
formal designs for the site have not been decided yet, the Parks and Open Space Team will be working
with the local community to draw up plans so that works can be completed before April 2009.
Initial
ideas include replacing the old playground with new equipment and incorporating some teenage equipment
along with improving the design of the rest of the open space, to include areas of planting, new bins,
benches and paths.
Nottingham City Council is one
of the successful ‘Pathfinder’ Authorities, sharing part of £235 million awarded for improving play
areas by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
Chediston Vale will be one of up to 30 playgrounds
part funded by this award between now and March 2010.
