Bulwell’s bank holiday family
fun day took place on Monday 5th May in Bulwell marketplace from 12noon – 5pm
The
FREE event, organised by Bulwell and Bulwell Forest Neighbourhood Management Team, marked Bulwell town
centre’s
recent transformation, and featured a packed programme of activity for all the family to enjoy.
There were various displays, including boxing and break dancing, as well
as a chance for local people to get involved in exercise workshops such as boxercising and belly dancing.
Other attractions included street performers, face painting and fairground rides, and even a rodeo bull!
The event was also be attended by the Trent FM Thunders and the White Post Farm Petting Zoo.
Residents
had the opportunity to talk to local agencies and organisations and browse a number of information
stands during the day.
Bulwell Town Centre recently received a much needed
makeover thanks to £300,000 investment from Nottingham City Council, Greater Nottingham Partnership
and East Midlands Development Agency.
The transformation includes:
- Improving
pedestrian links from the train/tram station to the Market Place/Retail centre by installing brand new
pedestrian crossing facilities and alter traffic movements on / and around the Market Place.
- Installing
new trees and street furniture in the Market Place.
- Improving public toilets at
the bus station.
One wide pedestrian crossing facility has been created
at the Market Place/Main Street/Highbury Road junction to make it easier for pedestrians to safely cross
the road.
Some of the funding has been used to introduce a Locallink bus service.
This has been in operation since early 2007 and has benefited people who rely on public transport. The bus service mainly runs on an hourly basis during the daytime shopping hours (Monday – Saturday).
The route the bus takes was chosen by local residents and connects Bulwell bus station with the outer
estates and supermarkets. The service also connects Bulwell bus station with Blenheim Industrial Estate.
