Nottingham City Council
will launch state of the art recycling banks at the refurbished Portland Leisure Centre on Tuesday May
13.
The new style of recycling bank is a new design that groups together
bins for a number of different recyclable goods in one unit. At Portland this includes paper, cardboard,
glass and cans. As they are so compact they can be placed in sites that would not be suitable for traditional
recycling centres and the aim is to make recycling as easy as possible for all city residents. They
also feature anti-graffiti paint and have solar powered lighting.
Sheriff of
Nottingham, Cllr Brian Grocock, will officially open the new recycling units at 2pm on Tuesday May 13
along with thirty children from Greenfields School, The Meadows, who will then carry out a litter pick
around the leisure centre grounds until 3pm.
Community groups and representatives
from the Dunkirk & Lenton and Bridge (Area 8) Neighbourhood Management Team will be on hand to talk
to residents about the new facilities and officers from Nottingham City Council’s Recycling Team will
be able to answer any questions about recycling and give advice to residents on how to minimise waste
and recycle more.
In Nottingham there will also be six ‘node’ on street recycling
units installed. So far the sites up and running are at Derby Road, by the Savoy cinema, Green’s Mill
car park, Windmill Lane, Sneinton market and on St. Ann’s Street, which is just outside the Victoria
Centre, rear entrance, by the junction of Huntingdon Street and Glasshouse Street.
All
media are welcome to attend the launch of the new recycling facilities at Portland Leisure Centre, Muskham
Street, The Meadows at 2pm for interview and photography opportunities.
