Residents in Lenton will benefit from new household
waste kerbside recycling this week as part of the Radford and Aboretum roll out.
Approximately
1300 properties have received recycling bins in the Lenton area including; a brown wheeled bin with
a grey lid for paper, cardboard, cans and plastics ; an insert box to put inside the brown bin for glass
bottle and jars; a small caddy for food scraps and supply of special compostable bags to use as liners. When the bags are full with food scraps this is then transferred to a lockable container which is collected
weekly.
Cllr Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment
and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council said: Nottingham City Council is ambitious about increasing
Nottingham’s recycling and composting.
We have set some big targets for the
future. As a city we want to recycle and compost 40% of household waste by 2011 and 50% by 2018. With
residents’ help we can become a great city for recycling but people need to get involved by using their
new kerbside services to recycle and compost more and more of their household waste.
Residents
have been sent detailed information booklets about the new scheme including a leaflet on how to use
their new kerbside recycling service, questions answered on recycling and also a recycling collection
calendar.
The first food collection will take place
week commencing Monday 24 November. The food bin will be collected weekly. The first mixed recycling (paper, cardboard, cans, plastics)
& glass will take place on Monday 1 December 2008. This will be collected every other week.
