Nottingham City Council is holding an employee
challenge day as part of this year’s Big Spring Clean campaign and is inviting residents across the
city to join in.
On Wednesday March 19, staff at the City Council are
being invited to help tidy up St Ann’s Allotments from 10am until 1pm along with residents across the
city who are interested in learning about conversation on the site.
The St
Ann’s Allotments is a very special and unique allotment site. It is the oldest and largest area of Victorian
detached town gardens in the world and has recently been listed with a Grade 2* by English Heritage.
The site covers 75 acres and sits in the heart of the one of the most deprived inner-city communities
in the country.
Once there, volunteers will be given a talk regarding health
and safety for the event by representatives from St Ann’s Allotments Ltd and will also learn about works
that are being carried out at this Heritage Site, and also about conservation.
Everyone
will be provided with personal protective equipment, litter pickers and bin liners. There will be a
special prize for the person collecting the most litter and for the most unusual item found.
The
clean up is part of the City Council’s Big Spring Clean campaign which runs throughout the city until
March 28 and aims to make the city a cleaner and greener place for everyone to enjoy.
During
last year’s Big Spring Clean campaign Nottingham City Council organised a similar event at Colwick Woods
Park.
