A Sneinton resident has been announced as Nottingham City Council’s
lucky winner of the Recycle Now Home Composting ‘Golden Bin’ competition.
Mr
Richard Le Corney of Bleasby Street, Sneinton, ordered a compost bin as part of the Compost Awareness
Week celebrations, and is now the lucky winner of £50 of garden centre vouchers, donated by DHL, the
logistics company that delivers compost bins for the Recycle Now Compost at Home Campaign.
Cllr
Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, will present
a giant gold bow and £50 worth of garden centre vouchers to Mr Corney at 4pm on Thursday August 28 2008.
Cllr
Katrina Bull, said: Mr Corney will now be able to compost at least 30% of his household bin. Not only
will his free, home-made compost keep the garden in bloom, but Mr Corney will also be reducing the amount
of methane – a dangerous climate change gas – that is released into the atmosphere when waste decomposes
in landfill,
In partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and WRAP (the
Waste & Resources Action Programme), the City Council are offering all Nottinghamshire residents
the opportunity to purchase a home composter to encourage people to home compost. Prices start at £17 with free delivery.
Those who missed out on this year’s
Compost Awareness Week can still purchase cut price compost bins which are available to buy throughout
the year. To find out what bins are available, residents can log on to the website www.recyclenow.com/compost
or phone 0845 077 0757.
