A landlord from Clifton has been ordered to pay
a total of £430 for
the illegal deposit of domestic waste in the area.
Keith Prior deposited
a sofa, two matching chairs, mattress, bed base and two doors on land belonging to Nottingham City Council
near to his rented property on Silbury Close, Clifton.
Mr Prior was then summoned to Nottingham Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded
guilty and was fined £160 and ordered to pay £108 for City Council clean up costs and £162 in legal
and investigation costs.
Cllr Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment
and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, said:"Dumping rubbish is illegal and can be very
dangerous. It also makes neighbourhoods look untidy and unsafe.
"We will always
try to trace the origin of the waste to identify who deposited it and when the waste was deposited.
Fly tippers will be prosecuted if we can prove they have illegally dumped waste. These offenders
can be required to pay full clean up costs for removing the waste as well as receiving a fine of up
to £50,000 and up to five years imprisonment."
"We hope this will
send out a message to other residents who may be tempted to abandon items in this manner.”
