Nottingham City Council is calling on the whole city to help clean
up Highfields Park
as part of a dedicated volunteer day.‘Get Involved’ Highfields
Park Volunteer Clean Up Day will take place on Tuesday May 20 starting at 12.30pm from the Lakeside
Pavilion. There will be refreshments for all volunteers from 3pm onwards.
Highfields
Park falls into two clear sections, lying either side of the dual carriageway of University Boulevard
in Dunkirk, Nottingham.
The volunteer clean up day is part of the Highfields
park week of action which will start on Monday May 19. The week will focus on a whole range of
environmental activities to help improve the park including clean ups, litter picks, pruning shrubs,
cleaning the lake and also planting up the historic flower borders as part of the Nottingham in Bloom
campaign.
A walkabout of the area has already determined what work needs
to be carried which will include:
• Litter-picking
•
Clear out overgrowth
• Remove broken fencing
• Remove any graffiti found
on site
All work carried out will be subject to nesting birds and other
wildlife preservation.
Cllr Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment
and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, said: “Throughout the Big Spring Clean we received a
lot of interest from individuals, businesses and community groups who were keen to volunteer for clean
ups and get involved in the campaign. We have decided to keep this momentum going and organise
clean up events on the back of the campaign called Big Spring Clean Plus. The idea for the clean-up
came from the Highfields User Group who thought a volunteer day would be an ideal way to improve the
park and get the community involved in using and looking after the park.
