Volunteers from Trent Vineyard Church in Lenton
are making a positive
difference to our city by cleaning up the Nottingham Canal.
The canal
has been highlighted as a hot spot for rubbish and flytipping and the church have organised for 15 volunteers
to go down with litter picks and bags to clear up litter around the trees and walk way.
The
clean up will take place on Friday March 7 between 10am and 12 midday.
The
group will focus on the Tinkers Leen section of the canal near Sainsburys supermarket.
Nottingham
City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, Councillor Katrina Bull, said: “As
part of this year’s Big Spring Clean we want local community groups and residents to get involved and
work in partnership with us to improve the environment and make it cleaner and greener.
“This
is a great example of a group giving up their own time to help improve an area for others to enjoy and
we hope more groups will target areas around them and contribute to making Nottingham the cleaner place
we all want.”
The clean up is part of the City Council’s Big Spring Clean campaign
which runs throughout the city until March 28 and aims to demonstrate what can be achieved when schools,
businesses, students, and local communities come together with the joint aim of making the city a cleaner
place for everyone.
