Bob the Builder will take part in a recycling themed assembly at Greenwood
Infants School, Sneinton, to mark the start of activities to promote recycling in the area.
On
Tuesday April 8, Bob will meet 160 pupils and will work with them to understand the concept of recycling
and educate them on which bin different types of recyclable waste should be put in. The pupils are all keen environmentalists and supporters of Nottingham City Council’s recent Big Spring
Clean campaign.
Recycling facilities are set to be increased in selected parts of the Sneinton
area as food waste collection will be trialled for the first time in the city. From June onwards there
will be extensive consultation with residents to find out what the obstacles might be to prevent people
from recycling more and a campaign to promote the extended collections that will also start in late
June.
11,000 homes in the Sneinton and Arboretum areas will pilot the collection
of new recyclable materials such as food waste. If the results are positive the pilot may be extended
city wide.
Other developments will tackle ‘hard to recycle’ places such as
blocks of flats and local recycling centres will be improved with better signage and offering disposal
of additional materials such as textiles, food cartons and shoes.
