Time to shout about un-sung heroes

There are only two weeks left to nominate in the Proud of You awards and Nottingham City Council is urging residents across the city to shout about an un-sung hero in their local community.

In association with Trent FM and Boots, residents are being asked to nominate an individual or group who have gone out of their way to make a positive contribution to Nottingham and its residents.

Nottingham’s Proud of You Awards thank those in the community who have selflessly gone out of their way to improve the lives of others – whether it is a good neighbour who improves the quality of people’s lives, a green champion who has improved the local environment or a someone’s act of bravery in a difficult situation that deserves recognition.

Leader of Nottingham City Council, Councillor Jon Collins said: “We have a responsibility for looking after the people and communities of Nottingham, but there are also many individuals in those communities who go out of their way to do something special. The Proud of You Awards is our way of recognising and celebrating the contributions made by these extraordinary people.”

Residents of Nottingham are invited to nominate an individual or group for one of the following awards:

  • Caring Award

  • Danielle Beccan Young Achiever Award

  • Good Neighbour Award

  • Green Champion Award

  • Inspiration Award

  • Boots Local Hero Award

  • Respect for Nottingham Award

An independent judging panel will select a winner for each category, winners will then be whisked off their feet with a special visit from Trent FM. Nottingham City Council will also award the winners a grant which must go to a local charity or community group of their choice.

Boots is sponsoring the Local Hero Award this year, which will recognise an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to community life or performed an act of bravery. Sarah Smith, from Boots’ Community Team said “Boots has been a part of Nottingham for over 150 years, and we know there are many heroes out there making a difference every day, so we are delighted to be supporting Nottingham’s Proud of You Awards”

Nominations for an award can be made online at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk or www.trentfm.co.uk. Alternatively, nomination forms are available at Nottingham City Council contact points including leisure centres and libraries. If you would like further information or would like to request a nomination form please contact Nottingham City Council on 0115 9154065.
