Nottingham City
Council, in association with Nottingham Interfaith
Council, is holding a commemoration on Sunday, January 20, to remember the Holocaust. All members of
the local community are invited to join.
A church
service of Remembrance and Renewal will take place at St Mary’s Church, High Pavement from 1pm to 1.45pm
attended by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Munir, and the Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Jeannie
Packer, and a Civic Reception will be held at the Council House from 2pm to 3pm.
Holocaust Memorial Day is on January 27 and the theme for this year is
‘Imagine…remember, reflect, react’ which provides a focus for people to remember the past and reflect
on racism and intolerance in society today.
Councillor
Munir said: “The event on January 20 is an opportunity for our local community to come together to remember
victims of the Holocaust and those whose lives have been affected by discrimination. The Imagine theme
helps us to think about the impact of discrimination and how it can still damage society, and consider
what we can do to work to protect against exclusion.”
Anyone
wishing to attend the Civic Reception after the service will need a ticket, which can be obtained by
telephoning Jackie Hardy on 0115 9155012
