Young guitar playerTalented bands and singers with the X factor are in demand for two competitions for city school pupils this November.

 The Nottingham Schools X Factor is back for its third year. The best singer or vocal group will win the chance to sing at the Albert Hall, Nottingham, as part of Nottingham City Council’s Christmas concerts on Wednesday and Thursday, December 3 and 4. They will also win a bass guitar for their school.

Bands in the Sand has been running for six years and is a chance for young

bands to compete in a battle of the bands festival in two age categories, 11-15 and 15-19. Winning bands get a recording session in a studio or CD vouchers as well as performance opportunities around the city.

Both events take place at the Sandfield Theatre in Lenton and all those taking part must be between 11 and 19.

Councillor David Mellen, Nottingham City Council Portfolio holder for Children’s Services, said:"These two events give a showcase to Nottingham’s young musicians and help nurture our home-grown talent. Both events are always popular and I hope they are enjoyed by participants and audience alike."

The heats for Nottingham Schools X Factor take place on Wednesday, November 5 with the final on Tuesday, November 11. The deadline for applications is Friday, October 24 and all those applying must attend a Nottingham City Council-maintained school.

For Bands in the Sand, most band members must attend a city school or Nottingham Music School, and must be 11-19 years old. Deadline is November 10.
