TV stars with their roots in Nottingham are back in the city
on July 2 to honour the achievements of Nottingham's looked-after teenagers.
BBC
East Midlands weather presenters Des Coleman, football manager Nigel Clough, TV soap stars Kerry Stacey,
Jo Dempsie and Tim Smith, with hip hop rappers Wariko and C-MONE, will present awards to 24 young people
in the care of Nottingham City Council at Oceana night club.
The
Big It Up awards recognise the achievements of young people for keeping healthy and safe, for their
achievements, for their positive contribution and for making the most of every opportunity.
This
is the fifth awards night for children in care.
Councillor David Mellen, Nottingham City Council's
Portfolio holder for Children Services, said: "This celebration evening is a chance for us to show how proud we are of the hard work of the children
in our care, of their determination to succeed and their considerable achievements. I’m delighted to
be attending the event’
He said it also gave the
City Council an opportunity to thank Nottingham foster carers for the care and support they provided.
"Our foster carers do a fantastic job, but more are always needed to provide a home and look after
teenagers."
