A concert by Nottingham Music School on Saturday (April 5) marks
the return of students from a successful two-week tour to the Alsace region of France and Nottingham’s
German twin city, Karlsruhe.
The concert, at the
Sandfield Theatre, Sandfield Road in Lenton, starts at 7.30pm and features music performed on the tour.
The tour, by players from Nottingham Music School’s
Concert Orchestra, Stage Band and Senior World Music Group, gave the young people from across Nottingham
City the chance to play in a wide variety of performances and venues including a bandstand at a Europa
Park in Germany, impromptu busking of jazz, funk and haunting folk melodies in the streets of Riquewhr
and Kayserberg that surprised and delighted audiences and passers by.
There
was a performance for the Mayor of Riquewihr and a prestigious joint concert with the Helmholtz-Gymnasium
School in Karlsruhe, where they also attended a reception with the mayor.
Ian
Burton, Nottingham City Council’s Music Development Officer, said: “Each performance was received with great enthusiasm and every audience was impressed by the high quality
and energy of the students’ playing. This post-tour evening is an opportunity to see and hear Nottingham’s young musicians at their best
and is not to be missed”
Admission is £2 (£1 concessions),
payable on the door.
