Learning Works for Young People is opening its
doors on Friday October
3 for people across the city to learn more about the training facilities it provides.
From
11am until 4pm, young people, parents, training providers and youth work professionals can find out
more about what training the centre has to offer for young people aged 16 – 18 years.
During
the day people can view displays and practical demonstrations, join in workshops or try their hand at
joinery or painting and decorating. Staff will be on hand to advise people on how to join up to available training places or how to refer
a young person onto a training programme.
Learning works offers Entry to Employment
training to young people aged 16-18 years old to help them get into further education, training or employment.
Courses are available immediately and throughout the year on a range of subjects from Literacy and Numeracy
to Carpentry and Joinery, IT training, Sports, Art and Media and Job Search Skills. Students are entitled
to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance and receive bonuses for gaining certain levels of achievement.
The
Entry to Employment programme is a government-backed initiative which aims to get young people into
further education, training and employment. Learning Works is funded in the city by Nottingham City
Council and The Learning and Skills Council.
Cllr David Mellen, Portfolio
for Children’s Services at Nottingham City Council, said: “Learning Works for Young People is the ideal
place for young people to get information and advice about alternative training to set them on the right
career path. Training providers and youth work professionals can also benefit from this event by learning
more about how they can help young people have a better future by making the right career choices.”
Learning Works for Young People is located at 1 Cairns Street, Nottingham
(back of Victoria Centre, opposite Hopewells)
