Nottingham achieves its best ever GCSE results
Early
indications show that in Nottingham City, more young people are achieving higher level passes in their
GCSEs than ever before.
Provisional results
show a 6% increase in pupils getting 5 GCSEs (A* to C grades), compared to last year from 53% to 59.1%.
This means the
city has done better than the 2.4% increase in the national average for this year's results and Nottingham's
pupils have done even better in their GCSEs than their peers around the country.
The
majority of schools in the city have seen their
best results since 2000, with four schools showing significant improvement in their pass rates (A-C
grades) compared to last year. These are: Big Wood School, Greenwood Dale School, The Nottingham Emmanuel
School and Manning School for Girls.
Councillor David Mellen, Nottingham City
Council's Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said: "I am delighted with
the achievement of so many of our young people and schools. We have seen continuous and sustained improvement
in GCSE results in Nottingham over the last few years. This reflects everyone’s hard work and commitment
to improving educational standards in the city.”
