A new £1/2 million centre for children and parents in Basford
officially opens this
week with five days of fun activities.
The Sure Start Children's
Centre, which is behind Whitemoor Primary School in Bracknell Crescent, offers a range of centre-based
and outreach services to families across the area with children under the age of five years old
The
official opening takes place on Saturday 5th July with a community event between 10am and 4pm with activities
ranging from arts and crafts to Henna art and dance for children.
Basford Children’s
Centre is one of 16 Children’s Centres in Nottingham providing parents and carers with integrated early
learning, care, family support and health services as well as for training and employment advice. Services include antenatal sessions, stay and play groups, young parents groups, drop-in health clinics,
family support, toy libraries, training courses and child care provision.
Councillor
David Mellen, Portfolio Holder for Nottingham City Council’s Children’s Services, said: "The Children’s
Centre hopes as many people as possible will join in the events this week and also find out what services
are available there.
"The centre is part of a multi-million pound programme of Children’s
Centres designed to meet the varied needs of people in different parts of the city"
