Nottingham has been selected to host the launch of the new working group ‘Cultural
and Creative Industries for Creative Cities’ as part of Eurocities, a network of major European cities
to promote our local cultural and creative sector and to project it at European level.
Delegates
from 28 European cities will be arriving in Nottingham to attend a reception in the Council House on
Thursday evening which will be opened by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Mohammed Munir, Cllr Brian Purbutt and
Cllr Malcolm Wood who is the chair of the Eurocities Culture Forum. Specialists in the creative sector
from local authorities around Europe will then visit Nottingham Trent University, Confetti Institute
of Creative Technologies and Broadway Media Centre on Friday 14th.
Cllr
Malcolm Wood said; This is an important opportunity for Nottingham as it clearly shows a strong commitment
from everybody to raise the profile of the creative sector in the city. Nottingham City Council are
working together with Nottingham Trent University, with the Nottingham Creative Network and its local
creative key-players but they also want to hear from emerging artists and businesses to promote a strong
image of Nottingham as a leading European creative city.
Nottingham has
clearly a lot of work to do over the next year and so, but feels that collaboration with key players
will make a real difference to the economic vitality of the city.
The
working group will be a place for cities to network and to influence governments and European institutions.
Nottingham has been part of the Eurocities for 10 years and will chair the Cultural Forum until October
2008.
