Nottingham City Council welcomes Specsavers’ decision
to locate their new office in Nottingham.
The Council was instrumental
in the negotiations that led to the optician’s move. Discussions that began in Nottingham involving
private sector partners continued at the international property fair MIPIM in France, and persuaded
Specsavers to choose Nottingham over Seville, Bratislava, Birmingham and Manchester.
In
the next six months, Specsavers will set up its UK service centre in the city’s Ng2 business park, already
home to Experian and due to be linked to the tram network. It’s hoped that it could employ up to 300
people.
Portfolio holder for Transport, Economic Development and Skills,
Councillor Brian Parbutt, said:
"This is a real tonic
for Nottingham after the recent loss of jobs at Capital One. Specsavers is a major national brand and
the fact that the company has chosen to invest in Nottingham speaks volumes for the city's competitiveness
and underlines just how good a place it is to do business."
Simon
Green, Director of Sustainable Development, added
"We're
thrilled that Nottingham will become home to Specsavers’ new office. We're sure the city will be everything
the company is looking for and more.
"It is the
enduring appeal of Nottingham, and negotiations carried out with skill and in the spirit of partnership,
that have brought Specsavers to the city. This investment will mean new jobs for Nottingham and the
City Council will be working with Specsavers, as we do with other businesses, to ensure the opportunities
and benefits for local people are maximised."
