Nottingham is being judged in the 49th
Civic Trust Awards, 2008.
The Civic Trust was established 50 years
ago and aims to raise awareness of the impact that buildings and public spaces have on our lives and
believe that a good building is not simply one which is a result of outstanding architecture; it should
consider the needs of people using it, living near it, or travelling to it.
Architects,
developers, contractors and owners who have worked on projects in the City have been encouraged by Nottingham
City Council to enter the awards which recognises the best in the built environment, from architecture,
planning, urban and landscape design.
The judging
panel includes architect Bernard Stilwell, Nottingham Civic Society member Ian Wells, officer Nicola
Pidduck and Dharmista Patel from Nottingham City Council.
On
October 24, the judges will be visiting The Old Market Square, Canning Circus, Turning Point, Broadway
Cinema and Media Centre, Hockley Environmental Improvements and The Pod.
On
October 25, the judges will be visiting Bilborough College, Wollaton Hall and the Kings Meadows Canopy.
