Advice on Immersion Heaters
In accordance with existing legislation and codes of practise Nottingham City Homes carry out comprehensive maintenance on gas and electricity systems in council homes.
A government/industry working party has been set up to report on the immersion heater fault identified by the tragic scalding death of Rhianna Hardie of Taunton Somerset.
Our tenants can be assured that we will put in place recommended measures which ensures their continued health, safety and welfare.
Whilst the risk of immersion heater and associated faults are very low householders and tenants should be aware of the warning signs which include:
- Excessively hot water coming out of the hot water taps;
- Excessive noise or ‘bubbling’ from the hot water cylinder;
- Hot water coming out of certain cold water taps (some storage cisterns also feed cold water taps in the bathroom);
- Steam/moisture in the roof space.
In such circumstances you should switch off the immersion heater. Tenants should alert their landlord. Advice from one of our qualified Plumbers should be sought if necessary.
Additionally, cold water storage cisterns supplying hot water cylinders should be supported on an adequat base. The cistern base must not project beyond its base support.
If in doubt, please do not hesitate to call our Repairs Contact Centre which is open every day of the year, 24 hours a day on 0115 915 2222.
