Conversation Groups and Language Café

Fun and informal ways to practice speaking other languages, share cultural interests and meet people from all over the world! All the groups are free and no booking is necessary.

Conversation Groups

These groups are for anyone who wants to improve their confidence in speaking English. They are aimed at people who speak English as a second language and help you build confidence by discussion, debate, exchanging ideas and through activities and tasks.

The groups decide what they would like to discuss at the following week's meeting, and we then prepare an activity based on their suggestions. We also regularly go on visits to local places of interest and welcome guest speakers from other organisations.

Pop along on to Central Library, Floor 1 on Friday 2 February  (9:00-6:30pm) and Saturday 3 February (9:00am-3:.30pm) and grab yourself a book or two with prices starting from just 50p. There will be a range of old stock including fiction, information books, children’s books and books in European and Asian languages.

Jane Brierley , Stock Lead, said:  "We want to make sure that the library has the most up to date stock and new, popular titles and this means that we have to withdraw books that are out of date or have got a bit tatty over the years.  A book sale is the perfect opportunity for  people to find some interesting books that are no longer needed at the library, but may be just the thing they are looking for.
