Library Clubs and Events

Information on regular library clubs and events happening across the City

Libraries don't just have book-related and children's activities, there are lots of activities for adults covering a variety of interests.  All these events are free, open to everyone and are a great way to meet people in your local community!

Library Clubs

Library clubs meet monthly and host talks from invited guest experts who present talks and discussions on a range of subjects.  Recent topics include Japanese tea ceremonies, the history of photography, local history and poetry.  Refreshments are available for a small contribution.

Everyone is welcome to attend and its a great place to meet people in your community.  There is no requirement to attend every talk.

Conversation Groups and Language Café

Fun and informal ways to practice speaking other languages, share cultural interests and meet people from all over the world! All the groups are free and no booking is necessary.

Conversation Groups

These groups are for anyone who wants to improve their confidence in speaking English. They are aimed at people who speak English as a second language and help you build confidence by discussion, debate, exchanging ideas and through activities and tasks.

The groups decide what they would like to discuss at the following week's meeting, and we then prepare an activity based on their suggestions. We also regularly go on visits to local places of interest and welcome guest speakers from other organisations.
