Cycling in Nottingham

Find out about what information and support there is about cycling in Nottingham and other initiatives.

Cycling in Canning Circus

Nottingham's Cycle City Ambition Programme

The Government has made £30 million available for cycling. The funding will be divided amongst three cities, from twenty eight who were invited to bid. We have submitted a bid for £6.1 million, which if successful will allow us to undertake significant improvements to our on road cycle facilities, the route alongside the River Leen and to invest in our Parks. We would also carry out improvements in our neighbourhoods and expand the Citycard cycle hire and parking scheme.

We will find out of our bid is successful in June. The bidding process is extremely competitive, but we are in a strong position as we are not starting from scratch. All of the work we would undertake is already included in our Cycle Action Plan and this injection of funding would allow us to accelerate the vision to allow Nottingham to become a true Cycle City.

A description of the bid is available here:pdf icon Application Form [621kb] If you would like to read about the bid in more detail and see the business case work that justifies why we should get £6.1 million please click here.

Cycling Action Plan for Nottingham

We have recently updated our cycling strategy. The new pdf icon Cycling Action Plan [1Mb] looks forward, building on the work and partnerships from the last Plan.

The new strategy is bold and hugely positive for cycling in Nottingham. It highlights a full range of measures which we will undertake for the benefit of Nottingham's citizens. We will be investing in many areas such as infrastructure, mapping, training and much more.

We want to keep you up to date on what we are doing for cycling in Nottingham. To do this we have produced a word icon Cycle Action Plan table [315kb] highlighting what is being done and what is planned. This will be updated regularly. Please take a look and if you have any comments or would like more information about anything please email transport.strategy@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

The Nottingham cycle map

Nottingham City Council's new cycle map is now available. Free copies can be collected from a variety of locations including libraries, leisure centres and the Tourism Information Office. We would also be happy to send you one out - please email transport.strategy@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or call 0115 876 3942 with your details.

In addition to the map on its reverse you will find a City Centre insert, a Big Track map and an Erewash Valley Trail map.

Nottingham Cycle Journey Planner

Nottingham is the latest partner in the Department for Transport's Transport Direct cycle journey planner. In a similar way to urban walking planner, www.walkit.com, the cycle journey planner allows bespoke journeys in selected areas of the country to be plotted online - you can even tailor your journey so you pick the quietest or quickest route. Partners in the initiative include Cycling England, Ordnance Survey and the local authorities.

Visit the Cycle Journey Planner on Transport Direct's website.

Nottingham City Council is updating the cycle maps and these will be available soon.
