City Leader arrives in Cannes after six-day ride

Councillor Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, arrived in Cannes yesterday (March 16) following a gruelling 2000km cycle ride from Nottingham. The two were near the front of an 80 strong riding party welcomed into the city by London Mayor Boris Johnson, as well the rest of team Nottingham.

In addition to generating substantial interest in the City of Nottingham during the world's biggest property investment show, le marche international des professionnels de l'imobilier (MIPIM), team Invest in Nottingham peddled in aid of cancer support charity Maggie's, and in particular for its appeal to raise £3million to open a care centre in Nottingham.

Shortly after arriving in Cannes a slightly saddle sore Councillor Collins commented: "This is witho ut a doubt one of the most physically challenging things I have ever participated in, but it was worth all of the blood, sweat and tears now that we're here and flying the flag for the city of Nottingham.

"We're aiming to raise enough money to enable the building project for the new Maggie's cancer ward at the City Hospital to get under way, as well as highlighting Nottingham's credentials as a primary location for investment to multinational organisations with money to spend."

Team Nottingham's main objectives will be to promote the six premium city centre sites that will become available when Nottingham City Council relocates all of its departments to Loxley House, as well as five major schemes currently under development or in planning stages in Nottingham's exciting new business district, Southside.

So far Team Invest in Nottingham has raised almost £1,200, but is keen to raise even more.
