Public Transport

Nottingham City Council is responsible for the provision of bus services that are not provided commercially by the local operators, transport infrastructure and integrated information provision to help achieve corporate as well as central government objectives of congestion reduction and tackling climate change.

Public Transport

The City Council's Public Transport section works in partnership with the city's main public transport operators and passengers.

The Public Transport Team has responsibility for: 

  • Public transport policy including local transport plan, bus strategy and accessibility strategy
  • Developing bus services to improve accessibility and add value to the commercial network
  • Developing bus lanes and bus priority measures
  • Bus stop infrastructure (including bus stops and shelters)
  • Integrated public transport information
  • Electronic information systems
  • Ticketing development
  • Concessionary travel
  • Development of the Citycard (integrated transport, leisure, library smartcard) 
  • Respect for transport initiatives
  • Public transport research to inform policy development 
  • Rail development, including the Hub
  • General liaison with public transport operators
