Product Safety
Everyone comes into daily contact with countless different products - from clothes to computers, from food to toys and everything else in between. All consumer goods should be safe and not cause damage or injury.
Trading Standards is responsible for enforcing the laws on consumer safety. This includes the Consumer Protection Act 1987 and the General Product Safety Regulations 1994. See the links on the right for factsheets to help your business comply with safety laws.
If safety problems are discovered with consumer products already on sale, businesses often issue product recalls.
We also advise on the movement and transport of farm animals and enforce the laws on overloaded lorries and their use in weight-restricted areas such as residential streets. Contact us for more information.
