Asylum Seekers and Refugees
Support, advice and guidance is provided to City schools to help them in their work with asylum seeker children, young people and their families.
Work with schools
Consultants provide advice, information and training to school staff to assist in embedding good practice into mainstream education.
This includes identification of needs and developing strategies and resources to enable access to mainstream educational provision for asylum seeker and refugee children and young people.
Creative Links Project
The Creative Links Project works with asylum seekers and refugees in the City of Nottingham. The project officer responds to the developing needs of asylum seekers/refugees by assisting them to access information, advice. guidance and support to access benefits, entitlements and other needs that will enable them to integrate.
The Creative Links officer works with the following:
Families
Provides information, advice, guidance and support to vulnerable asylum seeking families by raising awareness of services and agencies available to them.
Establishing effective signposting and referral systems to enable asylum seeking families to access appropriate specialist services
Accessing school places
The Officer give support, advice and guidance to newly arrived families to enable them to make informed choices with respect to accessing educational provision.
The Officer is also responsible for:
- Working with the Admissions and Exclusions and Education Welfare services to ensure their sensitivity to issues concerning asylum seeking communities

Castle College
The EFS course (English for Further Studies) is an Alternative Provison for some young people (of Year 11 age) who are newly arrived with little access to English and meet the admissions criteria.
