Speedo President to chair Nottingham Creative Business Awards
David Robinson, President of Speedo International, is to chair this year's Nottingham Creative Business Awards.
The new chairman takes his seat this year to celebrate Nottingham's vibrant and creative community which has helped put Nottingham on the creative map and be recognised as a highly credible cultural capital.
David Robinson, President of Speedo International Ltd (part of Pentland Brands), said: "I am very honoured and pleased to become the Chairman of the Nottingham Creative Business Awards 2009.
"Nottingham is the home of many creative and innovative businesses. They are led by individuals who invest behind their vision and make a real difference to the local and wider economy. The Creative Business awards aim to celebrate the best of this vital and inspiring sector."
Now in its third year, the awards will celebrate the city's creative sector which enhances Nottingham's profile as a creative city of national and international importance. They aim to recognise and celebrate the successes achieved by businesses and individuals working in the city's creative industries and raise Nottingham's profile as hotbed of globally influential talent.
David joined Speedo in 1995 as a member of the UK sales team. After working his way up to UK Country Manager in 1999, he was appointed General Manager of the Equipment and Footwear division in 2001. Following a successful tenure he became Senior Vice President, responsible for Global Product and Marketing, in 2005. David was appointed Co-President in 2006, before taking his current position as President in 2008.
Speedo is the worlds leading swim brand, distributed in over 175 counties worldwide, generating global wholesale sales of over $500million. Speedo is based in Nottingham England.
Richard Kent, Project Leader for Business Growth, Economic Development, at Nottingham City Council, said: "We are delighted to have David on board as chairman for this year's Creative Business awards.
"David will bring his reputation for generating energy and enthusiasm to the awards and will no doubt give a boost to all the creative individuals and businesses that enter the awards.
"As a council we are committed to promote and develop the creative industries as a key sector of the city's economy and we are thrilled David is on board to support our aim.
"These awards are our opportunity to show the world how much excellent creative work is going on around the city which will also boost our desire to become World Design Capital in 2012."
The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 7th October at The Council House.
Deadline for entrants is Friday 31st July 2009 at 5pm and may relate to work created or designed in the previous two years. Self-nomination or nominations by a third party are acceptable.
