Waste Education Programme – WISE

Nottingham City Council is committed to educating the next generation about sustainable waste management issues and has developed a new Waste In School Education (WISE) project, which is a free and fully supported waste education programme for schools.

We have a dedicated WISE Education Officer who works with schools throughout Nottingham and offers a variety of workshops, lessons and interactive activities to promote the key themes of reduce, reuse, repairing and recycling. All the sessions are tailored to the curriculum and individual school requirements.

For more information on the WISE activities available, please click here to visit the The WISE activities webpage. If you would like to discuss your schools needs or book a date please complete the online interest form or contact us using the details on the left hand side of this page.

Competition update!

Primary school competition

The WISE Owl used in Nottingham City Council's WISE project has been named 'Mr R' after a competition was run across city primary schools. 2000 pupils from over 14 schools across the city were involved in the 'Wise Owl' naming competition.

The first, second and third place scores are as follows:

  • First place went to a Year 6 pupil from Our Lady & St Edwards Catholic Primary School who came up with the name Mr R. Mr R stands for Mr Reduce, Mr Reuse, Mr Repair, Mr Recycle and the school will be presented with £100 and a Rolypig Composter
  • Second place for the name 'Eco Becko' went to Fernwood Infant School, Wollaton, who won £50 and a paper making kit.
  • Third place for the name 'Woody' went to Old Basford School, Old Basford who won £25 and a composting bin.

Secondary

WISE also offered two secondary schools the chance to take part in a FREE environmental play in a day called 'Love Food Hate Waste.' Thirty pupils will spend the day working with an actor from 'Konflux' to develop a 'Love Food Hate Waste' play which can be performed to the rest of the school at the end of the day.

Schools were invited to enter into a free prize draw and the following schools were the lucky enough to win:

  • Manning School for Girls, Nottingham
  • Top Valley Comprehensive School
