Nottingham City Council has signed up to the 10:10 campaign. This is encouraging all sectors in the UK to reduce their carbon emissions by 10% in 2010. We are committed to cutting our carbon by 10%.

ZERO 2100 Climate Protection Strategy
In 2006 ZER0 2100 a climate protection strategy was produced. This built on the earlier Climate Change action plan. The aims of this strategy are:
- To put the city on a path towards a low carbon future where the needs of the economy and local people are much less dependent on fossil fuels resulting in lowered carbon emissions
- To ensure that the city is adapted to the inevitable impacts of climate change and is well placed to maximize any benefits
We are now beginning to work on a new climate change plan for the city.
The Nottingham Declaration
The Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change requires councils and public authorities to acknowledge the increasing impact that climate change will have on our community during the 21st century and commits them to tackle the causes and effects of a changing climate in their area of operation. Working in Partnership
Nottingham's local strategic partnership in 2008 adopted two National Performance indicators relating to climate change. These are called National Indicator 186 -per capita reduction in CO2 emissions in the Local Authority area and National Indicator 188 Planning to adapt to Climate Change.
The Health and Environment Partnership
The Nottingham Health and Environment Partnership was launched in March 2007. It is a multi-sector partnership that works strategically in Greater Nottingham to identify and address environmental and economic causes of ill-health, to promote good health, tackle health inequalities and encourage environmental responsibility.
Nottingham Carbon Club
Nottingham is aiming to become one of the UK's First Low-Carbon cities through reducing emissions, raising environmental standards and capturing any economic benefits. In April 2007 the Nottingham Carbon Club was launched. Its main purpose is to assist Nottingham's major businesses help meet the cities commitments to lower carbon emissions.
The Carbon Management Programme
Nottingham City Council is participating in the Carbon Trust Local Authority Carbon Management Programme and is committed to reducing our carbon footprint through this process. This targets carbon reduction in our own buildings, transport, estate, schools and housing functions.

Environmental Management
The development of the Eco-Management & Audit Scheme (EMAS) throughout Nottingham City Council will strengthen action taken to reduce the City's significant environmental impacts. By ensuring that the environmental impacts of all services are audited, monitored and actions taken to ensure continual improvement in this area.
Environmental Policy
Nottingham City Council recognises the need to safeguard and enhance the local and global environment through its own activities and those of our partners. This Local Authority is committed to minimising the Council's adverse environmental impacts while enhancing the quality of life for the people of Nottingham City. An Environmental Policy was adopted in 2008 to outline how we intend to do this.
