Green Flag Award
The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. The award scheme recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country. For the year 2009/10 Nottingham City Council have won a record 11 Green Flag awards.
The Green Flag Award provides a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas. The awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag status. For the year 2009/10 Nottingham City Council have won a record 11 Green Flag awards for:
- The Arboretum
- Lenton Recreation Ground
- Victoria Park
- Bulwell Bogs
- Sandy Banks
- Strelley Recreation Ground
- Martin's Pond
- Queen's Walk
- High Wood
- Clifton Playing Fields
- Lenton Abbey
Nottingham City Council has an excellent record of achievement for Green Flag. The Council, working with Community and Friends groups is embarking on an ambitious programme to bring more sites up to the standard through the 'Breathing Spaces' Framework, over the next 10 years.
