Many older people experience difficulties in their own home associated with ageing. If you are aged 60 or over, minor adaptations in the home can frequently reduce the risk of falls and could improve your self-confidence to remain at home.

Conditions and features of the scheme

• you must be aged 60 or over
• you must be permanently resident within the Nottingham City Council boundaries
• you can be a Nottingham City Homes tenant, a homeowner or be in private rented accommodation.  If you are in private rented accommodation we will need permission from your landlord before some of the adaptations can be done.
• the scheme is designed to increase safety in your home, reduce falls and facilitate timely discharge from hospital
• all minor adaptations under the scheme are free

• grab/stair rails
• half step
• chair risers
• lever tap adaptors
• smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors

You can either apply for this scheme by telephone, or you can print off a form and post it to us.

To apply by telephone

If you want to apply for the PAD scheme by telephone, please call our team on 0115 915 9729. They will then complete an application over the telephone with you.

If possible, please have details of where the work is required with measurements, for example: 'additional stair rail - left hand ascending - approx 4 metres'. If you are referring someone to the scheme, please ensure they know that a referral is being made to minimise any distress caused by an unexpected visit. An assessment will then be made to determine the works that can be carried out.
