Low cost home ownership schemes

Low cost home ownership schemes provide a step onto the housing ladder for people who could not otherwise afford to buy a home on the open market.  They provide financial assistance in the form of a loan or equity share enabling people to buy and live in their own home.  The schemes are sponsored by the government and provided by a 'HomeBuy agent'.  East Midlands HomeBuy is the HomeBuy agent for homes in Nottingham.

Not everyone is eligible for assistance through the schemes.  However, you may qualify for a low cost home ownership scheme if you are:

  • a council tenant;
  • a housing association tenant; or
  • a first-time buyer with a household income of less than £60,000 per year and who can't afford to buy a property on the open market without help.
