Celebrating Volunteers in 2008

One in seven people in Nottingham is a volunteer. If that includes you, then thank you. The time and effort you put in makes a major difference to our communities and environment in Nottingham, and we are very grateful.

To show how much we value Nottingham's volunteers, we worked with Nottingham Council for Voluntary Service to organise a large-scale event during Volunteers' Week this June. This event aimed to raise the profile of volunteering in Nottingham, and encourage more people to get involved, as well as thanking current volunteers for their work.

If you are a member of a voluntary or community group who would like to be involved in events like this in future, please contact us.

Saturday June 7th 2008 - Market Square

Market Square was filled with marquees as 40 different local voluntary and community groups came together to show people what they do in the city. The stalls hosted displays about the work organisations were doing, plus activities such as seed planting, food tasters, graffiti walls and Chinese writing. One corner of Market Square was taken over by organisations dedicated to children's work and they organised a free play area for children, and children's activities such as face painting and badge making.
