What is Telecare?

The Telecare service provides a home safety and personal security system designed to enable older people and others to remain living independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

The telecare service consists of four main elements:

  • a pendant alarm and a range of equipment (sensors and detectors) that generate an alert when there is problem and help is required; 
  • a care alarm that receives the alert and automatically dials for help
  • a monitoring and response centre that receives the alert
  • an appropriate response to help assist with the problem

Using the pendant alarm, which you can attach to yourself or your clothing, you can summon help from anywhere in your home (within 50 metres of the care alarm).

 An example of a Telecare Service would be as outlined below:
