Travelling to Armed Forces Day

Information on how to get to Armed Forces Day, from road closures and diversions to special public transport offers to help you get to and from the event.

The main programme of events will take place at Victoria Embankment from 10am to 6pm. The Parade and Drumhead Service will take place in the Old Market Square from 10.30am to 12noon (although this will be broadcast live to Victoria Embankment from the Old Market Square).

Arriving on foot

If you live locally then walking to the event is the healthiest and cheapest way to get there. The Old Market Square is about 30 minutes walk from the Victoria Embankment.

Cycling to the event

Nottingham is part of the National Cycle Network, with several routes leading to and from our city. To find the best route visit www.transportdirect.co.uk and select the 'Find a cycle route' button at the top right of the screen. From here you can add your journey details and even customise your own preferences.

Travelling by bus and tram  

There will be a number of road closures around the City Centre and Old Market Square on this day which will impact on services and stops. For more information please contact your local bus operator, visit www.traveline.info or call 0871 200 22 33.

Getting to Victoria Embankment

A number of bus routes take you over Trent Bridge or Queens Drive and there are regular buses from the City Centre that pass Victoria Embankment. The NCT 11 passes closest to the Embankment. To plan your journey, visit www.traveline.info or call 0871 200 22 33.

Nottingham City Transport will also be providing extra shuttle buses between 1800 - 2000 from the Embankment back to the city centre (normal stops city side of Trent Bridge) to help people get back into town after the event.

Catching the train

Rail services to Nottingham will be operational as normal for this day. Train timetable and ticketing information can be found at www.nationalrail.co.uk. The station is a 10 minute walk from the Old Market Square or about 15 minutes from Victoria Embankment. For walking directions from the train station, visit www.walkit.com Taxis are also available on Station Street.

Using Park and Ride (P&R)

Queen's Drive P&R is the closest and most convenient P&R site to access the events on the Embankment and City Centre with buses running every 10 minutes. Queens Drive is just 20 minutes away from the Embankment (get off at Wicks then walk) or the City Centre. Click here for more information.

Colwick Racecourse P&R site also provides fast and frequent buses to the City Centre from the east of the City.

£3 per car at Queen's Drive & Colwick Racecourse Park and Ride. FREE unlimited parking and return bus trip for up to 6 passengers.

There are 5 tram based P&R sites to the north of the City Centre. Services run every 15 to 30 minutes. For more information visit www.thetram.net

Driving to the event

Car parking will be provided at Victoria Embankment for £5 (opens at 9am). Disabled parking is also available and will be accessed from Queens Drive / Riverside Way. There are also a number of well located, secure car parks around the City and the map on this page (see downloadable map) shows the locations of the most suitable within easy reach of the Old Market Square and Victoria Embankment.

Please note there will be no coach parking available at Victoria Embankment.

Tram

Nottingham Express Transit (NET)

  • 5 for £5 group ticket - allows 1 or 2 adults and up to 3 under 16's to glide into Nottingham and make unlimited journeys on the tram. This offer will be available from 3pm on Friday 28 June and throughout the weekend (29 & 30 June).
  • FREE Travel for Armed Forces personnel - from 3pm Friday and throughout the weekend (must travel with your ID).

Nottingham City Transport

  • Special offer: Discounted £4 Group Rider ticket which allows up to 5 people (max 2 adults) to make unlimited journeys on any NCT bus route.
  • FREE Travel for Armed Forces personnel on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June (must travel with your ID).

Trent Barton

  • Travel for just £1 per trip for any journey to all those in Armed Forces uniform or showing their ID on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June.
  • Zigzag £9 group ticket - unlimited travel for up to any 5 people through the day with trentbarton & red arrow (after 9am Mon-Friday, all day at weekends until midnight).

Travelling by bus and tram?

Buy a £4 Kangaroo ticket - on any Nottingham City bus, tram, train or park and ride service.

A kangaroo ticket gives you unlimited network travel all day across Greater Nottingham, allowing you to attend the parade and Drumhead Service in the City Centre and travel to Victoria Embankment for the main celebrations (10am - 6pm), returning into the city later on for the Big Night Out.
