The modern sports centre was added in 1990 to compliment the outdoor facilities and opened in time to host the Volleyball Competition for the World Student Games.

Centre facilities:

• One of the largest sports halls in the region consisting of 10 badminton courts. The hall also has markings available for 5-a-side football, basketball, netball, volleyball and indoor hockey
• Air-conditioned fitness suite with a comprehensive range of resistance and cardio vascular equipment
• Easy Line Fitness Suite is one of the most modern and user friendly fitness concepts available. The equipment uses hydraulic systems of resistance so there are no weight stacks to worry about. This makes it suitable for younger and older people
• Cafe/Bar
• Full-size football pitches available for hire during the football season
  Indoor 60m running track, incorporating facilities for pole vault, high jump, long/triple jump, shot and discus
• Function rooms available, ideal for parties, presentation evenings and meetings
• Excellent track and field facilities in the Harvey Hadden Stadium including a 7 lane athletics track with an 8 lane start and finish straight
• Covered seating for up to 740 people along the home straight of the athletics track and uncovered spectator viewing surrounding the tracks
• Improved disabled parking and accessibility
• Facilities are available for events with a seating capacity of 1,600.  We currently host events such as Sky Sports Boxing, Exhibition fairs, International Karate championships plus many more
