Opening Times:

March - October
Open Monday - Sunday, 10am - 5pm
From 1 April 2013, the Castle will be open 7 days a week, throughout these months.

November - February
Open Wednesday - Sunday, 10am - 4pm (last admission to the site at 3pm)
The Castle is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in these winter months.

Last paid admittance into the Castle grounds is one hour before closing time, and last entrance to the shops, café and museums is 30 minutes before closing time.


Admission Charges

  • Adults - £5.50
  • Concessions (under 16s, over 60s & UK students) - £4
  • Under 5s - FREE
  • Family Ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children) - £15
  • Groups - 1 free ticket for every 10 purchased
  • City residents with a valid Citycard can gain entry on weekdays for just £1 (excluding Bank Holidays).  These £1 tickets are valid on the day of purchase only.
  • Carers accompanying disabled visitors will remain free of charge.

The Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard is open for general admission every weekend and Bank Holiday from April - October, 11am - 4pm. A joint admission ticket for Nottingham Castle and The Museum of Nottingham Life is available on these weekends.  For further information visit The Museum of Nottingham Life page.

Season tickets

Are you a regular visitor to Nottingham Castle? 
If so you could save money with one of our great value weekday season tickets.  

These tickets are valid weekdays (excluding Bank Holidays), and provide full access to all the Castle's galleries, exhibitions and grounds for a single fee. Season tickets are available from time of purchase until 31 March. 

Nottingham city residents (weekday season ticket, Monday - Friday, excluding Bank Holidays)
Adult Single £8
Family £12 (2 Adults and 3 Children)

Non-city residents (weekday season ticket, Monday - Friday, excluding Bank Holidays)
Adult Single £15
Family £20 (2 Adults and 3 Children)

How to get here

By car: Follow signs from M1 for Nottingham city centre, then follow brown tourist signs.  The postcode for the Castle for your sat nav is NG1 6EL (but please remember there is no parking on site except for disabled visitors).

Parking: Parking on site for visitors with disabilities only. Public car parks are nearby, for details of City Council car parks click here. Nottingham City Council operates the Nottingham Castle pay-and-display car park on Canal Street (NG1 7EH) with all-day parking available for £5. No height restriction applies, so it is suitable for minibuses. The Broadmarsh multi-storey car park on Collin Street (NG1 7EQ) is also within five minutes of Nottingham Castle.

On foot: 10 - 15 minute walk from Nottingham city centre or train station.

Information for disabled visitors

  • Parking available on site for Blue Badge holders (please call us in advance to book a space on 0115 8761400)
  • Disabled toilets on site
  • Wheelchair & electric scooter also available (prior notice required) we only have one of each
  • Ramped areas marked and lifts to all floors available

Cafe at the Castle - with its panoramic views of the city, the Café at the Castle offers the perfect way to relax and revive. Open daily (see opening times above), it serves a range of refreshments including home made soups, sandwiches and a range of hot and cold seasonal specials. Vegetarian options are always available. The Café is on the ground floor, with access to the East terrace with amazing views of the city.

Shop -the museum shop has an array of contemporary crafts, fine art books, postcards, posters, cards, small gifts and souvenirs to remember your visit to the Castle.


Castle Grounds

The Castle is situated in six acres of beautiful Victorian inspired gardens.  The serene seating area surrounding the CastleA picture of Nottingham Castle Playground bandstand is the ideal spot for quiet relaxation or to read a book.

Children's Playground

Located on the Castle green the medieval style playground and covered picnic area provides the perfect setting for a family adventure.
