At what age should I register my child?

In Nottingham City children usually start school in the September after their 4th birthday. We are currently taking details of children who will start school in September 2014.

If your child's 4th birthday falls between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 you can use this form to register your child so that you receive information on applying for a school place in September 2014.

Complete the form below and email to the School Admissions Team, to register your child for a school place in 2014/15.  You will receive your application pack by the end of November 2013.

If you feel they are not ready for full-time school in September, you can delay your child's start at school . The law says all children must receive full-time education no later than the start of the term after their 5th birthday. However, if your child's 5th birthday falls between 1 April and 31 August, delaying their admission until the term after their 5th birthday would mean that they would be admitted to a different admission year than other children of their age. Places may then be very limited and you may not get a place at your preferred school. This is due to the fact that many parents/carers will opt for their child to start school during the standard entry period/'round' in the September after their 4th birthday, so many places will be taken up at this point.

What should I do if my child is older?

If your child's 4th birthday falls between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 they are due to start in September 2013. This application round has now closed but you are able to make a late application. Please follow this link for more details.

If your child is older than this then they should already be going to school. Please follow this link for more details on how to apply for a school place if your child is already school age.

What should I do if my child is younger?

If your child's 4th birthday is after 31st August 2014, then they are too young to register at this time. For details on early-years and nursery provision you can contact the Familes Information Service.

What to do if you don't live in Nottingham City

If you and your child do not live in Nottingham City you will need to contact your home local authority (i.e. the local authority for where you live) to ask how to register your child's details. You must then apply for a school place on your home local authority's application form (you can apply for any school on your application form, including those in Nottingham City).

If you live in Nottinghamshire County Council's area you can telephone the County Council's Contact Centre on 0844 9808080 to register your child's details with them.
