Confidential Reporting Code (Whistleblowing)
Fraud includes a range of irregularities and illegal acts characterised by deception. Such offences include obtaining property or services by deception, false accounting and corruption. Examples are: misuse of time, resources or equipment; overpayment of salaries / wages, mileage; overcharging by third parties; cheque fraud; unofficial funds; and theft of cash, materials or equipment.
Nottingham City Council has a Confidential Reporting Code, which can be used to report concerns, including suspected irregularities. This Code is designed to protect colleagues and citizens in those instances where they feel that by speaking up they are being disloyal or may be harassed or victimised.
The Code details the action you should take, the advice available and the processes that will be followed, and provides you with added protection. You may also wish to refer to the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA), which is popularly known as a Whistleblowers' Protection Act. The PIDA protects employees who make disclosures about a range of subjects from recriminations.
Benefit frauds should be reported using the Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0115-8764445 (Benefit fraud only).
All other frauds should be reported via the Fraud Hotline on 0115-8764243 (non Benefit fraud only).
Whilst referrals can be made anonymously, we would not be able to provide you with updates or clarify any details related to your concern.
