Short Breaks

Nottingham City Council provides and purchases a range of short breaks services to enable disabled children and young people to experience positive activities which develop their skills whilst giving their carer and family a break from caring.

Who is our service for?

Severely disabled children and young people aged 0-19, and their carers living in Nottingham City who would benefit from short break experience.

What do we do?

We offer the following care-based services, subject to referral by the Children's Disability Resource Panel:

Crocus Fields

Provides residential short breaks to young people aged 8-19 years with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and autistic spectrum disorders, whilst maintaining young people within their families and local communities.

Home from Home

Offers a daytime and overnight foster care service to children and young people aged 0-19 with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and autistic spectrum disorder.

Link Work Scheme

Provides community-based 'short breaks' for disabled children aged 5-19 years, by providing individual support to enhance social education and support to access community activities.

How to access our services

Short breaks (with the exception of the Emergency Carer Scheme) are available after a core assessment of need and are agreed at a multi-agency short breaks panel. Short Breaks, once in place, will be regularly reviewed and if necessary changed to meet the child or young person's changing needs.
