Nottingham Riverside Festival

Despite the rain, Nottingham's largest family festival, the Riverside Festival proved to be another successful event.

Thousands flocked to Nottingham's Riverside Festival at the weekend. The festival offered lots of entertainment and activities, with a colourful and vibrant programme of live music, performance, arts and fairground attractions offering something for everyone.Riverside Gallery Link 

The Riverside Festival is a unique Festival that covered a distance of one mile along the banks of the River Trent, at Victoria Embankment, adjacent to the historical Trent Bridge.

World and Roots Music featuring....
This year's music programme was second-to-none with World and Roots music performances by artists including Etran Finatawa (Niger), Che Sudaka (Spain), Edward II (UK), Black Umfolosi 5 (Zimbabwe), The Shee (UK) and Zulu 9.30 (Spain) to mention just a few.

Nottingham Children's Festival
The Festival also marked the beginning of Nottingham Children's Festival were children got involved with the interactive hand-on arts and craft activities, puppet shows and circus skills and lots more. Adults as well as youngsters had a go at the Salsa, Bhangra and Lindy Hop dance workshop sessions - and watched performances of aerial dance and acrobatics!

Street Theatre
There were many Street Theatre sites, visitors also had the opportunity to step back in time with the traditional Old Tyme Gallopers, Traction & Steam Engines and Old Tyme Organs.

Food Stalls to Street Fair
Visitors also explored the global crafts and food stalls that offered goods and flavours to suit all tastes, enjoyed their spins on the street fair with rides that thrilled plus old favourites such as Hook-a-Duck.

Spectacular Fireworks
As always the highlight of the weekend was the twenty minutes breathtaking fireworks display on Saturday night from 10.30pm. Spectators were enthralled and amazed as the sky lit up in a spectacular climax to Saturday's festivities.

Dragon Boat Challenge
This year's Riverside Festival was extra special as it marked the first Dragon Boat Challenge which took place on the Sunday where corporate teams competed against each other in the name of charity. The Challenge drew large crowds and has been hailed a success after it raised £6,500 for charity. The Challenge was followed by the annual charity Duck Race in the afternoon which also raised money for the Nottingham Hospice and Teenage Cancer Trust.

2010 Riverside Festival

The Riverside Festival normally takes place during the first Saturday August and the previsional dates for the 2010 Festival is Friday 6 - Sunday 8 August 2010. The full programme for this event will be published in July 2010.
