Nottingham Riverside Festival 2010
Riverside Festival provided the 'feel good' factor as thousands flocked to the Victoria Embankment to enjoy a weekend of FREE family fun!
Over 130,000 people attended this year's event, strolling along the banks of the River Trent and soaking up the festival's fun atmosphere. The weather was kind this year and the warm temperature made it an ideal chance to enjoy the variety of activities on offer and for alfresco picnics and ice creams!

Festival highlights included the children's ArtsZone area (part of the Nottingham Children's Festival) which was a huge hit with parents and children alike. There were lots of activities on offer to keep the children interested including circus skills sessions, puppet shows and dance workshops.
Parents were able to take a step back and watch their children getting stuck into arts and crafts. New for this year was the Tate Movie Project (run in partnership with Wallace and Gromit creators, Aardman Animations) which offered children the opportunity to get involved in helping to make an animation film and which had fantastic feedback from festival goers.
A bustling street fair, global craft stalls and a display of traditional steam engines meant that there really was something to keep everyone happy.
Saturday night drew to a close with an amazing performance from Jassi Sidhu, a renowned performer of Punjabi Bhangra music. His high energy performance got lots of hips swaying and feet tapping as people danced along to the music.
It was a fitting prelude to the spectacular fireworks display that took place at 10.30pm as an end to Saturday's festivities. There was a huge range of fireworks to see and Trent Bridge and the dragon boats made a lovely backdrop to the bright lights of the fireworks and the amazement on the faces of the crowds who watched.
Sunday saw the return of the annual Dragon Boat race which saw a number of teams take to the water to compete for charity. In the afternoon the charity duck race took place which turned the water in to a mass of floating ducks, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of on-lookers.
There really was a fantastic atmosphere at this year's festival and great feedback has already been received including the following positive comments:
"The event is good for public morale and the local economy"
"Everyone walking round seemed to be really happy and to be enjoying themselves"
"A great day out and a great range of performers and stalls"
Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Customers adds: "This year's festival went really well and thousands of people of all ages enjoyed the entertainment. The magic of Riverside is the variety of things on offer and the diversity of the people it attracts. We've had some fantastic feedback already about the good atmosphere and it seems a fun time was had by all who came along."
