Serving Children and Young People Better

'Serving Children and Young People Better' is part of and links to the Serving Nottingham Better programme.

Children's Services has launched SCYPB to improve outcomes for children and young people in Nottingham. It represents our drive for continuous improvement and involves a number of projects/areas of work which are joined-up under the programme.

The key outcomes of the SCYPB programme include:

  • effective commissioning on the basis of need;
  • accelerated service improvement in targeted areas;
  • building capacity across the partnership; and
  • using resources more effectively and efficiently.

We want to provide effective, responsive, integrated and continually improving services and achieve our ambition to become a top performing Local Authority

The programme will develop over time and there will be opportunities for staff to get involved.

More programme information

Serving Children & Young People Better has 3 key themes

  • Improving Performance
  • Building Capacity
  • Value for Money

Vision for Excellence

Serving Children and Young People Better will drive improvement so that by 2010 we will have:

  • Become a Beacon Council for Children's Services
  • Shifted resources towards prevention and early intervention
  • Children and Young People participating in service design, evaluation & delivery
  • Become the employer of choice for multi-skilled & specialist Children's Services Professionals
  • Effective partnership working that has improved outcomes for the most vulnerable
  • Genuine budget sharing, joint commissioning and joint processes
  • Locality based services commissioning on basis of local need

Managing Change

Achieving these improvements will require a significant change in approach and ways of working across children's services and our partners. It is important that this change is applied consistently so that there is a clear shared understanding of priorities and expectations that drive excellence. This will enable change to be effectively co-ordinated resulting in:

  • New ways of working that focus on the needs of children and young people
  • Culture and shared values that break down barriers to improving outcomes
